The First Annual Great Sierra River Cleanup

Press Release-Thousands volunteer Saturday for the first ever Great Sierra River Cleanup Event

 

On September 19, 2009 more than 3500 volunteers joined together to remove more than 133 tons of trash and recyclables from rivers throughout the Sierra Nevada as a part of the first annual Great Sierra River Cleanup. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would like to thank all of the volunteers and host organizations that made the premier year of the Great Sierra River Cleanup such a huge success!

Final Results:

36 different cleanup sites
3,566 volunteers
102 tons of trash removed
31 tons of recyclables removed
500 river-miles cleaned
