Grant Program
Fiscal Year 2012-13
Prop 84 Healthy Forests Grant Program Update:
The following changes were approved by the SNC Board at its March 8, 2012 meeting.
- In response to the large interest and significant need expressed through the applications received for this program area, we are adding $2 million to the award total. This means that we will award in the amount of $7 million for this grant round.
- In order to allow sufficient time to carefully review the applications received, the awards will be broken into two phases:
- In the first phase, to be recommended to the Board in June 2012, we will award up to $5 million for the highest ranking Category 1 projects.
- The highest ranking remaining Category 1 and Category 2 projects will be considered for award of up to $2 million at the September 2012 Board Meeting.
Based on direction given by the SNC Governing Board, the remainder of our Proposition 84 Funds (approximately five million dollars) will be awarded to projects that support the Preservation of Ranches and Agricultural Lands. The 2012-13 grant cycle and focus area is the second of a two year Grant Program approved by the SNC Board in 2011.
SNC Staff has developed DRAFT Grant Guidelines for the FY 2012-13 grant cycle focusing on the “Preservation of Ranches and Agricultural Lands”. Please Note: these Grant Guidelines are currently in Draft form and are subject to change in response to SNC Board direction.
The final draft of the Grant Guidelines with changes to reflect public comment will be presented to the SNC Board for review and approval at its June Board meeting.
Fiscal Year 2011-12
The SNC received 122 full applications by the January 23 deadline, requesting a total of $17.2 million. This included 80 applications for $14.5 million for Category 1 projects and 42 applications for $2.7 million for Category 2 projects. As a reminder, Category 1 projects are “on the ground projects” and Category 2 projects are pre-project activities necessary to implement Category 1 projects in the future.
The SNC Board approved new Grant Guidelines for the program at its regular meeting held on Thursday, September 8, 2011. Consistent with the current SNC Strategic Plan, the 2011-12 grant program will focus on Healthy Forests, with $5 million available for awards. Any project proposal would continue to be required to meet Proposition 84 criteria as well as contribute to the achievement of the SNC’s mission and programmatic goals. Interested parties should review the approved guidelines in order to see if the project meets these criteria. Eligible project types are described in the Grant Guidelines.
The SNC Governing Board is scheduled to take action on grant awards for the Proposition 84 FY 2011-12 Healthy Forests program at its regularly scheduled meeting in June, 2012.
