WHAT’S COMING:  FISCAL YEAR 2011-12 PROPOSITION 84 GRANT PROGRAM

The SNC Board approved new Grant Guidelines for the FY 2011-12 Proposition 84 “Healthy Forests” Grant Program at its regular meeting held on Thursday, September 8, 2011. As per previous Board direction, the SNC will allocate the remaining $10 million of its Proposition 84 funds over two fiscal years: 2011-12 and 2012-13. Each round will have an area of focus consistent with the newly adopted SNC Strategic Plan. The 2011-12 grant program will focus on Healthy Forests and 2012-13 will focus on ranches and agricultural lands in the Sierra Nevada.  Any project proposal would continue to be required to meet Proposition 84 criteria as well as contribute to the achievement of the SNC’s mission and programmatic goals.  Interested parties should review the approved guidelines in order to see if the project meets these criteria.

NOTE: The most significant change to the SNC Grant Program for FY 2011-12 is the new requirement to submit a pre-application.  Viable projects with required supporting information will be issued an invitation to submit a full application; projects considered unviable or not eligible under the published criteria will be declined.

Pre-applications may be submitted any time after the Request for Proposals is posted on September 26, 2011 until 5:00 PM on October 21, 2011. Pre-applications will be reviewed as received.  Applicants will have the opportunity to work with SNC staff in developing the pre-application in order to increase the probability that the project is invited to submit a full application. POTENTIAL APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BEGIN WORKING WITH SNC STAFF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON THE CREATION AND SUBMISSION OF THEIR PRE-APPLICATION. The review of pre-applications will determine whether the project meets minimum eligibility criteria and, if so, will result in an invitation to submit a full application.  The earlier the invitation is issued the more time an applicant has to work with SNC staff to develop the full application, which may be submitted any time after receipt of the invitation to apply.  All invitations and pre-application declined notices will be issued by November 11, 2011.  The final date for full application submittal will be January 23, 2012.
